I am the head cook and do most of my contest with my Wife Nicki and 3 year old daughter Emma. My daughter has a fit if I make BBQ and dont let her rub the meat.
We have only done 1 KCBS contest and that was the Illinois State contest in 2008. Our highest finish was a 12th place in Sausage.
Our first contest was in Dixon Illinois I got talked into playing in the tennis tournament and cooking in the rib contest as well. The two events were held about 400 yards away from each other. So my wife sat and watched the cooker in 90deg temps in july. whlie I would play a tennis match and then run down and check on the ribs, the right back to the tennis. The best part of that day, was we won the rib contest and I also won the tennis tournament. The other rib cookers were impressed with the fact that I did not sit and worry about the ribs all day. I told them, in the six hours I cook ribs I will only look at them 3 times. It was a great time.
