We dont know you.
We've never met you. And we probably never will.
But we send you our condolences, our warm wishes and our heartfelt sympathies.
We don't know your names. But we'll miss you just the same.
***I know its not personal, people... but I had to say something*** |

Lexa where have you been girl!!
The biggest earthquake in over 200 years hit Asia at the weekend causing a massive tidal wave and tremors which sadly took the lives of over 60,000 people in India, Malaysia and the Maldives as well as Indonesia.
National aid agencies are responding and worldwide relief efforts are coming into place in order to help those stranded, injured, lost and homeless. This is indeed Mother Nature at her worst. |

I know two people that do live in Malaysia (frickangel and RK9) and they are both ok.
Arthur C. Clark is ok too, although some of his staff did not fare as well.

Tsunami Death Toll Soars to Near 77,000
With an image of the Christian "Mother Mary" attached to debris, a local resident salvages a bicycle from the devastation to his fishing village by the weekend's massive tsunami, Wednesday, Dec. 29, in the eastern coastal town of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. Sunday's earthquake-triggered tsunami has left over 21,000 dead and thousands still missing according to Sri Lanka's National Disaster Management Center. |

I know Im just totally... what a thing to happen at Christmas. I read an article where an american guy rescued this 5 year old boy, thinking he was an orphan and then they found his grandmother in the hospital. He said he just burst into tears.
It makes you think doesnt it. Next time it rains heavy, or it snows I shant complain. I'll consider myself damn lucky instead. |

Actually Lexa, you're both right, and both wrong.
A multi billion dollar early warning/monitoring station would have give them some warning so they could've started evacuations. They could have cleared the coastal regions, at least warned people away from the beaches and off the waters. But nothing would have prevented the quake from occuring - when quakes like this occur all we can do is prepare, get people away from ground zero and affected areas. And then go back and rebuild what is left.
It is a tradegy of such huge proportions - to think all the aid being pledged now could have bought 10 such stations. But we really have noone to blame for this except Mother Nature herself. They're calling for people to donate clothing, shoes, money and foodstuffs now - we shouldnt dwell on the past, we should help those who need us now.
there is a website currently available: http://www.dec.org.uk/ which will give you further information. |

| Actually the quake didn't do too much damage, sice the area is known to be and acrtive earthquake zone so buildings are reainforced. But the tidal wave did the most damage, and most if not all the death have been caused by the tsunami. And if someone would have warned the people thousands if not milions of lifes could have been saved. It took two hours for the tidal wave to get from the epicenter to the shores. |

| Okay now that's just dumb...ppl should know that a quake that size would cause such a wave. The normal than larger waves shoulda said something. Well also some of the tech thats not yet invented woulda helped warn the ppl but still... |
