Okay, so I know it's old news. The Iraqi war, blah blah, blah - so whats new.
Nothing. And thats my point. Our soldiers are out on the front line risking life and limb for a war that the rest of us dont really believe in any more. I feel for the Iraqi people, but they're the ones bombing our people - telling us to get out and leave them to it.
I believe in diplomatic intervention, but I don't believe in staying where we're not wanted anymore.
There have been many calling this 'Vietnam II' - and what about the economic reforms, the building and the restoration which is supposed to be happening? I personally havent seen many reports on those as I would like.
So what's your view? Do you disagree with me - or agree that maybe its time to reconsider our position in Iraq. Maybe its time to bring our people home.
What do you think? |

I understand your point of view.
But can we really retreat the troops? Is it good timing? If teh troops go back home will the bomibings stop? Will Irak have a democratic regime - or will a new comunist one be introduced by the people with the big guns?
Those are some serious questions that need answering before we march outa there. |

Well even if we did stay around and wait for them to vote democratically - can we be certain we're not just creating another India? By which I refer to the India being under British Empire rule before it came into its own.
We can tell ourselves that we need to 'answer some questions' and 'enforce democracy' from now until doomsday - but arent we imposing our ideals and moral standards on them? Different countries do things in different ways - perhaps we do need to stay a while, or at least act as a rearguard - but it seems to me the only thing we're doing out there is getting shot at. At least Tony Blair, tell us what our sons and daughters and brothers and sisters are putting their lives on the line FOR. We know the official blurb, now lets hear the truth.
You show us the good we're doing for these people, and the long term plans you've supposed to have gotten in line for this country - show us that we're not just doing it for political reasons - and we'll stand by you.
But if you can't, then bring our lads home in planes and not body bags. |

| I think the troops should leave and come home. I mean, i've felt this from the start, how many more deaths is it going to take. Some soldiers just don't want soldiers there anymore; they should leave them to it to sort their own problems.... |

"Peace" is not the absence of war.
We could have global "peace" of that sort immediately, but a world structured according to the whims and demands of genocidal types who define anyone who does not share their flavor of religion as subhuman and unworthy of life does not sound like a good place to me.
Whose war is it?
It's the war of any civilized human who wants to live and let live, and who does not want to be ruled by a death cult of ignorance that allows only one book to exist, that treats women as animals, allows honor killings, and sends children to do murder.
It isn't just about Iraq. Or Afghanistan. Or Israel.
That means it's America's war. It's India's war. It's Australia's war. It's Canada's war. It's The Philippines' war. It's Europe's war, too, although many Europeans want to pretend they can appease their way to safety. In the long term, it's China's war and Russia's war, too.
No, it isn't pretty. Is war ever pretty?
A week ago, a brave jihadi broke into a Jewish charity office in Seattle with two guns and a knife, and shot 6 unarmed, unthreatening women. One of them died. One saved her unborn baby by taking the shot in her arm. It takes real courage to shoot unarmed women.
The story is getting buried by a print and electronic media that cannot face the reality that there are people living among us who want to kill us. That truth is just too dreadful, too far afield from more usual concerns like our own entertainment, material acquisitions, and other fluffy matters.
Ignore this war at your peril. It isn't going to just go away. Thinking really civilized thoughts won't help you. Most likely, if the west [and the civilized, developed east, which has as much to lose] is to survive at all, we're going to have to learn to play very rough: think Stalingrad, think London blitz, think Dresden. Think Okinawa. If the names mean nothing to you, you have some homework ahead. We're all Israelis now, and for the foreseeable future.
The people who would cut your throat with a smile are not going to be won over by being handed a cold Coke and an invitation to sing "Kumbaya" with all the other kids around the campfire.
