The search engine www.askjeeves.com has announced it will drop out Jeeves, the butler figure that was their brand image for years. Ask has motivated their decision saying that people were now a little distracted by Jeeves, thinking that the only use of the site was to Ask Jeeves a question. Instead, Ask has developed many more options, including My Jeeves and Jeeves for Kids. They did not name a date for the dumping of Jeeves.
In your correspondent's eyes, the move highlights what www.ft.com described as indecision, that is, they don't know what their customers value most and dump exactly that product or brand. Jeeves was the soul of Ask Jeeves and now they'll have to find another.... |
