| Ok, so this is an old fic, but I will be posting it bit by bit because I want to catch any typos or wrong grammar, hopefully. Do check it out, I promise it won't be that bad. |

Boys Don't Cry
“Boys don’t cry.”
Shalimar repeated the words once again, this time emphasizing on every single word.
“Boys... don’t... cry.”
She gently rocked her body back and forth, trying to remove the ugly feeling that was creeping up her chest.
“Yes they do.”
Shalimar looked up and saw Emma standing in her doorway. The psionic was looking empathetically at her. How long had she been standing there Shalimar didn’t know. She was so caught up with her own emotions that her feral instincts failed her.
“How would you know?”
“Because I’ve seen them cry before.”
Emma slowly entered her friend’s room and sat beside her on the bed. She placed a comforting hand on the feral’s arm. She offered an encouraging smile at her.
Shalimar tried to return the smile, but her lips betrayed her. She knew Emma was doing her best to offer her support. But so far, even that hadn’t helped her feel better.
“When?”
“Many times already.”
“Why?”
“For many different reasons.”
“Like?”
“The same reasons we have.”
Shalimar returned her gaze at the floor. She was trying hard not to let the tears flow from her eyes. She should be the stronger one, the one who would offer support, the one who would protect Emma from all the pain that comes along with her gift. But it was Emma who was offering a helping hand this time around. And Shalimar wasn’t completely comfortable with that.
“Can’t I do anything to make you feel better?” the young psionic asked timidly. She knew it was hard for the feral to appear so vulnerable in front of her. Shalimar was supposed to be the tough one. It was understandable if it was Emma who breaks down because of an overload of emotions that she was receiving. But Shalimar – she was the leader of the pack, the person who was supposed to be in control of her feelings (although it was proven more than once that ferals were not very good in keeping their emotions locked up inside). Breaking down was not her style. That’s why Emma knew it was so hard for the feral to even talk to her in the condition she was in now.
Shalimar slowly shook her head. “No, there’s nothing you can do,” she whispered. Emma was really trying, but she was not about to admit that she was weak. She was going to survive this all by herself. She didn’t need anyone’s help.
Emma didn’t have to be an empath to feel Shalimar’s pain. She also felt an air of stubbornness and false pride surfacing from her friend. She was going to keep all the pain inside. Emma couldn’t allow that.
“There must be something I could do.”
Shalimar looked up and met Emma’s gaze. She saw genuine concern and love in the psionic’s eyes. The love she felt coming from her friend was so overwhelming that she didn’t realize that tears were already streaming down her face.
“Oh, Shal, don’t cry,” Emma said gently, wiping away the feral’s tears. She gently wrapped her arms around her friend’s shoulders and smoothed out her hair. She would give anything just to make her stop crying.
Shalimar was sobbing endlessly now. She let go of all her defenses, allowing Emma to fully sense the pain she’s going through for the first time. Emma would understand. She always did. She was safe with her. She could trust her.
“Emma... make him cry.”
It was a plea. A desperate plea coming from a very proud person. Emma knew she could never say no to her, not after seeing her in such a vulnerable state. But she also knew she couldn’t do it alone. Shalimar’s request was almost next to impossible. She would need help, if she ever wanted to make her friend smile again. |
