Dedicated to Keira Kane. Keira, I'm sorry it was so long in coming, and I hope it was worth the wait. If you want a Christing one folks... you know what to do!
The first dance title was taken from my own sister's wedding - thats Mr & Mrs Inglis - they danced a breathtaking first dance to 'I Can't Help Falling In Love With You' - and boy did they take it away.

The day had come.
Soon she would be walking down that aisle, standing opposite the man she loved and becoming Mrs Brennan Mulwray.
Staring in the mirror, at her reflection, Keira Kane wondered what she could have done to deserve such a wonderful life.
She looked across at her two bridesmaids and smiled.
Emma DeLauro was adjusting the tiara in Lexa's hair, whilst brushing down the dusky lilac of her bridesmaids dress. They looked amazing, contrasting and blending both.
She only had one regret. And that regret had a name. Shalimar Fox.
She cast her mind back to the day Brennan had proposed and they had announced their engagement to the rest of the group. The others had bundled around congratulating them, and Adam had gotten out the champagne to celebrate. But the Feral had remained distant, quiet a trait that was new in her - and scared Keira somewhat.
After a bit, she had congratulated the couple, albeit stiffly, and even wished them good luck.
The next morning, her bedroom was empty - her stuff gone.
Adam had explained that she had requested a particular mission, and would be gone for many weeks - but had stoicly refused all attempts to disclose her location. Even to Jesse.
Everybody knew the truth though, thought Keira. Everyone knew she had driven Shalimar away from her friends, family and team. It was all her fault - because she had to go and fall in love with Brennan.

"You look beautiful, Keira!" Exclaimed Emma DeLauro, bringing her back to the present with a start.
Keira smiled shyly, and gave a little pirouette.
Dressed in a beautiful white wedding gown, trimmed with gold and offset with a shower of diamond sprinkles down the right hand side - Keira looked like a princess.
The back of the dress was laced up with silk in a corset effect, and her veil cascaded across her shoulders and back - adding to the compliment of her slim figure.
"Brennan's gonna so be blown away." Agreed Lexa, straightening up too quickly.
"Whoops!" She staggered sideways, caught by an ever vigilant Emma who saved the dress from an embarassing tear.
The three exchanged glances, and then burst into a fit of giggles.
"May I ask what's so funny, or is that something I really don't need to know?" Interrupted a male voice, which was swiftly followed by the rest of Adam Kane in person. He looked very handsome in his wedding gear, and had come in good tradition - bearing champagne.
"A toast? To my beautiful ladies." He grinned with obvious pride.
After they had finished, he got Keira to pose with Lexa and Emma for some photos, and then offered Keira his arm.
"Shall we go?" He inquired formally, and escored them outside to the limo.

At the venue, Brennan Mulwray adjusted his tie for the 100th time.
"Quit it will ya. I just did that! You do that any more and you'll strangle yourself - and then Lexa will strangle me!" Exclaimed his best man, Jesse Kilmartin.
"What if she's having second thoughts? What if the GSA have gotten wind of this.." Brennan wondered aloud, voicing his worst fears. It wouldnt be the first time the GSA had crashed a Mutant X function as he recalled Jesse and Lexa's nuptials.
"Chill. She will be here, the GSA don't know squat. Everything will be almost perfect." Returned Jesse, then cursed himself for the last sentance.
"Sorry man."
"It's okay, Jess. Shalimar is in the past, and she's still a good friend. I wish she could've been here, but I understand why she feels she can't. We were together a long time Jess." Sighed Brennan, regret lacing his words.
They went to escort some rather late guests to their places.

In the car, Keira too was beginning to wonder. Would Brennan have second thoughts - did he want Shalimar instead of her after all? What if...
"Hey. Quit it. He'll be there Keira. He loves you more than life itself." Assured Emma, picking up on her friend's emotional state.
"Is everything okay back there?" Queried a worried Adam. He had taken his role of father of the bride very seriously indeed, and wanted everything to be perfect for her.
"Fine, Adam. But why are we stopping?"
Indeed the car was slowing and halted outside a tall building. Definately not the church.
"Got to make a pikcup." Said Adam, hoping that was true.
"Stay here, I'll be right back." He promised.
Five minutes later, amidst some considerable cursing of clothes designers in general, the door to the limo opened and a bundle of lilac and blonde hair jumped into the car.
"Room for one more?" Asked Shalimar Fox with the biggest smile.
"Shalimar! I thought, we thought... but how? The dress... the roses.... how?" Asked Keira, happiness just shining out of her now.
Shalimar laughed.
"Blame Adam!" Was all she would say, and Adam climbed into the car, beaming back at the girls.
"Knew I forgot something." He quipped smugly and then turned back to the driver.
"Shall we?"

The moment had come. She stood beside her husband to be, he stared at her adoringly, mirrored by her own expression no doubt.
She almost stumbled on the vows, and when Brennan slipped her ring on her finger... everything just seemed to freeze.
For that moment in time, that single moment - love filled her universe. She was truly happy.
Then Brennan kissed his bride, and they turned back to their friends.
"Hi wife." He mouthed at her.
"Hi husband" She answered.
And they kissed again.
The rest of the day went by in a whirl, Emma catching the bouguet. Brennan seemed totally stunned by his brides beauty, and their first dance was to 'I can't help falling in love with you'.
And nobody said a word when Shalimar had four helpings of the chocolate fudge wedding cake.

Towards the end of the evening, the couple sat back - watching their friends and their family dancing, laughing and being happy for them.
"Just wait until the Christing." Commented Keira to her new husband.
Brennan did a double take.
"You mean... you're pregnant?" He choked out the words.
Keira smiled and looked at her family again.
"Gotcha." She said. |
