no. But I can clone one in my oh so secret laboratory.

So on a serious note... I see Adam has a shady side as well as his heroic aspects but at least he doesnt try to sweep things under the carpet. And I havent seen him trying to pod people recently....

Well crap!

He does have a shady side but he should trust ppl enough to share it with them. It doesnt put them in danger just informs them. It's better to tell someone the truth then hide it.

Is it? Do you tell someone they have six months to live or just let them live their life and enjoy every second of it without the overcast doom and gloom? Or do you have the right to make the decision for them?
Such issues were raised by the char Adam himself in Shes Come Undone, Season 3 when he confronts Jesse telling him that its Lexa's choice to take the risk of death because its her life to begin with

Raises some interesting moral questions dont it?

In response to Dark Mirage's posts (I know I'm a bit late, but hey. Mason's why I joined. Razz), I have to say that your views of Adam and Eckhart seem a bit one sided. Eckhart is, hands down, my absolute favorite character of Mutant X. But he is the villain. Some examples:

1. 'The Shock of the New' - Eckhart ruthlessly executes Breedlove. I've been to your site, and I've read it all. But the manner in which Paul Breedlove died was very brutal, and to which Eckhart shed zero remorse over.

2. 'The Shock of the New' - Eckhart's brutal treatment of Ruby Bishop. He had Ruby psionically read his mind. Ruby was in such a state of fear that he nearly went into shock. Eckhart's response to this was smugness. He wanted to be feared.

3. 'Whiter Shade of Pale' - Eckhart, again, ruthlessly executes Aldous Berkely for failing to capture Danielle Hartman (the GSA vs. Mutant X fight scene was really horrible. Crying or Very sad).

4. 'Blood Ties' - Eckhart orders his right-hand-man, Porter, to assassinate Noah Kilmartin.

5. 'Altered Ego' - Eckhart confesses Ms. Cooke that he was the one who blackmailed her father (and not Adam), which was the reason he commited suicide.

6. 'Altered Ego' - Eckhart watches passively as Lynch nearly strangles a fellow GSAgent.

7. 'Double Vision' - Matty Conlan (who prides herself in being tough and independant) confesses that Eckhart's experiments were sick, twisted, and caused her undeniable pain.

8. 'Dark Star Rising' - Eckhart orders an experiment that ultimately causes the death of 10 humans (when he tried to turn humans into New Mutants), and then authorizes Harrison's act of attempting to paralyze Longstreet's brain function.

9. 'Dancing On The Razor' - Eckhart authorizes Lanchestor's usage of brutal (and often lethal) methods to protect the GSA and Genomex from public exposure.

10. 'Lest He Become' - Eckhart attempts to create a race of New Mutants, and thereby pollute the gene pool further (as you accused Adam and Breedlove of doing - though Eckhart fully knew the consequences of his decision).

Now. Mason Eckhart remains my favorite character. But he is the villain. And he has indeed committed some unspeakable evils. He is a ruthless man. And, don't get me wrong. There are times when he has been very merciful - and has hinted that his conscience remains (defending Adam and Genomex's work from Marlowe's accusations in 'The Meaning of Death' - as well as backing down in 'Dancing on the Razor') - but Eckhart remained, until his dying day - a ruthless and twisted man.

At the same time - Adam has shown acts of cruelty and questionable ethics as well. The show, originally, tried to make Adam perfect. But he isn't, and he has committed many mistakes.

Also:

In the 'Altered Ego' episode, Cooke adjusts Adam's moral compass. If Adam were evil, why is it that when she messed with his moral structure - that he turned into a homicidal maniac? Adam is good. A bit lacking in the common sense area sometimes, but he's a good man.

There. Wink

Wow! You make very good and (uh-fanatical) points. Although Dark Mirage is not on this site anymore, this debate is still open to anyone.

Welcome to the forum!

I believe we could have used an Eckhart episode - one that would show us a bit of his past and why he has become such a cold man. Perhaps even more character development, and a better death scene.

Neither Adam nor Eckhart are perfect. And you can't really say that what any of them did was exactly legar. While working at genomex and in their later years.

Thanks.

I think Dark Mirage has some excellent alternative universe stories, but her perception of Eckhart doesn't seem to be reinforced by what Mutant X has supported.

Neither Eckhart or Adam are perfect, correct. In my opinion, the creators of the show have spent a lot of effort trying to make it. Consider. He's the smartest man on the planet. He's able to pound the crap out of government agents half of his age and better trained than he is. He's able to even, when he so chooses, defeat his own mutant creations.

What can Eckhart be given, as far as advantages are concerned? I wish they developed his character more.

'Lest He Become' was a good example. Eckhart finally one-upped Adam at Naxcon, disabling the EMP Adam was going to use to destroy his experiment.

Adam was too... 'fake' for my liking.

While it was fun to see Adam kicking ass it was a little bit inconsistent with the scinetist & lab sleeper personality. I liked "Altered Ego", he outsmarted his team by knowing their weaknesses.

Eckhart was smart, and good at manipulation. But his minions always lacked training & common sense. Yet he did have a few some briliant scnes in season 1. "Nothing to fear" was pretty, and also "Meaning of death" where he agreed on working with Adam. However he was so wrongly written in "Into the moonless night". No more witty lines, nothing underneath the evil mask.
