| Sam turned and smiled at the other girl. She’s familiar as well. What’s her name again? Bri… Briana? Briony? she wondered to herself as she watched Kaelyn introduce her and herself to the other girl. She’s another psionic, it seemed. Sam immediately felt the strength of her mind, and instinctively raised her mental walls as a response. |

| "Oh come on...." The light changed and he was off again, heading closer to Sanctuary. He and to hang up his phone and stuck it in his back pocket as he raced towards a meeting he was going to be really late for.Hope he calls me back... |

Adam had waited, meeting and greeting the majority of the New Mutants who'd answered his call.
Luke was late, but then Luke was ALWAYS late, he'd reflected. If he showed, he would fill him in later. Right now it was time to get started.
"Welcome, to you all, thank you for coming so quickly." He paused, hands on the railing that stood over the wall.
"I only wish it was under ..... more congenial circumstances." He smiled, but it didnt reach his eyes.
"Some of you know the reason behind it, some of you dont. Most of you know each other, some are new - but you'll each find your niche I'm sure."
He took a deep breath.
"You're all aware of Mutant X, Brennan, Shalimar, Jesse, Emma and Lexa. They were on a mission, when communications went down and I havent been able to reestablish contact. The mission parameters and tapes are available to each of you who choose to accept this mission." He halted again. |

| Luke drove his bike as fast as he could down the winding road. "Darn it Adam. Why could you make this meeting closer. I am jet lagged, tired, confused as can be, but when is that any different when dealing with you? You are going to be so pissed. Unless you thinking that Im still like I was before. Always late unless it was a deal with a costumer. Well Im not...." Sanctuary was still about 30 minutes away and a good hike up the mountain side from the side he was comming from. |

Kaelyn listened as Adam told the others that the Mutant x team was missing. She tried not to let on that she already knew, but she caught Sam looking at her, who glanced at Briony, then Kaelyn remembered Sam was Psionic and guessed Briony was too.
Kaelyn looked away from the other girls toward Cyan, who was also looking at her, ‘What am I, surrounded by Psionics?’
All 3 girls laughed at she knew the answer.
She went back to listening to Adam. “Adam, all right I understand why you called us, but I have a small question. Did you call us here to rescue Mutant X or finish their mission? I mean which is more important to you?” asked Kaelyn angrily.
The others that were there looked toward her in awe, but then they looked at Adam, waiting for an answer. |

Telsia waltzed in right as Adam started the conversation. "Oo an outting this'll be fun!" She said sarcastically. "Sounds like the Matrix sorta, take the red or blue pill, accept or not."
"You always so sarcastic?" Faith asked Telsia, look directly at her though her eyes didnt totally focus.
"Pretty much," she shrugged.
Faith rolled her eyes. "Well I'm in dont need to bother with the tapes." |

Adams mouth tightened almost imperceptible and his eyes darkened.
"Retrieving Mutant X is the first priority. If and thats an IF not a WHEN, Kaylee, you can finish the mission WITHOUT anyone else being injured then you have a green light. But getting my fa - my team out of there is the mission." He said, his voice very quiet and dangerous. |

| Briony looked nervously around at the others. She wasn't sure about the others, but she knew she wasn't really certain of how she fit into the picture here. Plants and animals were one thing. People were another. A little thought formed in her head that she shot at Sam, "What? It takes 4 psionics to replace Emma?" She kept her public mind quiet, listening to what Adam had to say. |

| Kaelyn looked at Adam, her anger at him subsiding somewhat. She could see the pain in his eyes when he talked of the members of Mutant X. "Adam, count me in." |

Sam glanced back at Briony and smiled warily. Emma is, as we all know, a very powerful psionic. I guess Adam thought that not one psionic can do a job as well as she could, so he had to get at least four. She returned her gaze at Adam and nodded. "Okay then, count me in as well." Sam knew she wasn't half as powerful as Emma was, but that didn't mean she wouldn't give it her all to save the team.
Cyan remained silent the whole time, but a small smile appeared on her lips the minute Adam confirmed his affection for his team. "I'm in," she said, not really thinking of the consequences of her actions. She was rather known to be rash and spontaneous, but she didn't care. She wanted to help. And help she will do. |

Kaelyn looked over at Briony; her indifferent reply had given her away. Kae, even though she was Psionic, felt that Briony felt like she couldn’t help. Kae had felt like that before Adam and Mutant X saved her, furthermore it was the reason that she got hooked up with the Links.
She smiled at Briony to reassure her, she would try to get some alone time with Briony later. She did after all need to make friends, not enemies on this mission. |

"Now I'd like a scan update on each of you, and the mission briefing and recording are copied and available to each of you in quarters." He said, getting more businesslike |

Kaelyn looked nervously at Adam. She hated being scanned, but knew that if she wanted to go on the mission she had too. She was afraid of being scanned because she was afraid of how much it would show. She had always been afraid of mutating out of control and becoming like Ashlocke. She suddenly felt her fears being calmed and glanced to see Sam smiling at her. She gratefully smiled back, “Adam, do me first.”
He looked at her in shock; he knew how much she hated the idea of being scanned.
“Adam, I’ve grown up a lot since then and Sam just helped to kick my just now,” she joked. |

| "Okay if you're sure. Do you want one of the others to join us?" He asked her, carefully. There had been incidents before and he still had the scars from sone of em. Not that it had been intentional of course, and he never in a million years held it against her for a second, but experience taught him never to make the same mistake twice |
