Well this will be the kinds "oficial" what good boks have you read thread.
The last book i read was The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Briliant book. The charcater seems so real, so live, so understandable, so much like you. I love it.
Last summer i read The Ender series by Orson Scott Card. It's a wonderfull story. The author makes you believe that you're right there beside Ender, and Jane and Miro, on their ship ledaing to the "ouside".
So what good books have you read lately? What's your take on what i mentioned?
"What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though." ~Holden Caulfied "The Catcher in the Rye"

Good books, okay...
Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It was well written, and the way his characters reacted and developed were amazing.
Brightly Burning by Mercedes Lackey. Endearing characters that you can relate to, and a wonderful plot.
Double Helix by Nancy Werlin. Very interesting book that gets you thinking.

I've read Heartland, story about a girl whos mother died and she continues to run the Heartland with her sister and grandfather, healing damaged horses as well as hearts. Its very touching and makes me acutally cry.
The Lesser Kindred, I reread I loved it so much. Its by Elizabeth Kerner, a woman, Lanen had set off in search of herself and the legendary dragons. Now she has returned from her journey with a husband who is more than he seems. But these two lovers will not live happily ever after because a danger that can destroy everything is brewing.
"When the breach is healed at last
when the two are joined in one
when the lost ones from the past live
and move in light of sun,
Marik of Gundar's blood and bone
shall rule all four in one alone"
I got a friend of mine to read the three novels The Song In the Silence, The Lesser Kindred and Redeeming the lost and he loved them. I highly recommend these three if your into fantasy, they will blow you away!! |

Cool, I'll check those out!
Okay, here's a few more.
I LOVED these two (reread several times), wonderful fantasy duo! Sadly, they're not as thick as I would like them to be.
Green Rider and First Rider's Call by Kristen Britain.
(From Green Rider)
Barnes&Noble.com wrote: On her days-long journey home, Karigan Gladheon trudges through the immense forest called Green Cloak. She is leaving school, or, more accurately, she has been asked to leave. "Suspended indefinitely," the dean said. And for what? Challenging and thrashing Timas Mirwell in the practice ring. Karigan felt no remorse when she stood over the heir of the lord-governor of Mirwell province, her wooden practice sword at his throat. He had humiliated her, the daughter of a "mere" merchant, since the first day of school. But now, as she faces the long road home, hoping to arrive in Corsa before the dean's letter does, she wonders if she should just hire herself out on a merchant barge as her father did and stay away for good. She has too much pride, too hot a temper, and a penchant for danger - a life of travel, adventure and commerce will undoubtedly suit her just as it has her father. But before Karigan's ponderings can become a definite plan, her thoughts are interrupted by the clattering of hooves, as a galloping horse bursts from the woods in an explosion of branches, the rider slumped over his mount's neck, impaled by two black-shafted arrows. As the young rider lies dying on the road, he tells Karigan that he is a Green Rider, one of the legendary messengers of the king, and that he bears a "life and death" message for King Zachary in his horse's satchel. He begs Karigan to carry his message, warning her not to read it, and when she reluctantly agrees, he makes her swear on his sword to deliver the message "for love of her country." As he bestows upon her the golden winged-horse brooch which is the symbol of his office, she seems to hear the ghostly sound of great wings beating the air, of silver-shod hooves galloping...and of invisible lips murmuring, "Welcome rider..." But beside her on the road, the messenger only whispers, "Beware the shadow man!" with his dying breath. This promise given to a dying man changes Karigan's life forever.
Julie of the Wolves, Julie, and Julie's Wolf Pack by Jean Craighead George.
These books are a little dry, nothing like the midevilish fantasys I normally read, but I liked them.
Hatchet, Brian's Winter, Brian's Return, Brian's Hunt, and Transall Saga by Gary Paulsen
These books are found in the children's or young adults section. (I frequently raid this section when I've exhausted the Adult's fiction section)
Beast Master's Circus by Andre Norton & Lyn McConchie
Barnes&Noble.com review wrote: Laris has been with the circus since she was a child. Orphaned by war and living in a work camp with no hope of a future, she jumps at the chance to train dangerous animals for the circus, even though it means she is basically signing herself into slavery. Although life with the circus has its advantages -- Laris has secretly and telepathically bonded with an exotic cat named Prauo -- she has been forced to help her boss, a rogue named Dedran who has been rumored to be working for the Thieves Guild, abduct (and usually kill) Beast Master animals for nefarious purposes. When the circus lands on the planet Arzor -- the home of Hosteen Storm, his family, and his animals -- Laris is told to befriend Storm and find out exactly where he keeps his highly intelligent animals, including Surra the dune-cat, Baku the African eagle, and Hing the meercat. Laris wants to save Storm and his animals, but her interference may lead to more gratuitous killing. |

No one posted for a few days... here's more:
Through Wolf's Eyes & Dragon of Despair by Jane M. Lindskold. Both were excellent books in all aspects that I can think of. I read them in a mixed up order, and I'm trying to get my hands on more of the Wolf Series. (A new one just came out last month)
Marlfox, Lord Brocktree, Mossflower, Outcast of Redwall, Mattimeo, Pearls of Lutra by Brian Jaques. There's a whole lot more from that author. All the ones that I've read are good books with endearing animal characters.
Blue Sword and Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley. Both are good books, and excellent reads. |

| Right now, I am rereading some of my old Roswell books (the ones based off the series, not the ones that started it). I just finished rereading 'Quarantine'. Very good book! It's nice to have some insight into how Liz felt after Tess (evil b*tch) was gone...but she was still hurting. Just good to read |

Good books? I have a couple of those.
The Little Prince -- my all time favorite, made me really sad when he had to return to his planet, and the only way to do so is by dying... also loved the part of the fox... *sniffs*
Labyrinths by Jorge Borges -- can you imagine all those creepy labyrinths of libraries, towers, clocks and mirrors? a really creepy book, I absolutely love it!
Chronicles of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez -- one of his eccentric works, and although you already know that the main character will die, the writing style makes you hope that he'd escape his fate one way or another... a really good job!
Like Water for Chocolates -- not only makes you hungry with its mouth-watering recepies, but the crazy story will surely entice you as well.
White Noise by Don Dellino (ok, I'm not sure with this surname) -- a crazy book about technology and how it can save and at the same time break you... recommended for sci-fi fanatics!
Ok, that's all for now... |
